Why I Hate Paypal and Ebay
I AM SORRY...
Due to Paypal's (a.k.a. Ebay) fascist and bullying tactics my ebook stores StClairExchange.com and Mass-Ebooks.com are not currently operational.
WARNING! If you do any transaction online it is vital that you read my letter and the valuable links below. I always thought Paypal's and Ebay's outrageous and unfair policies screwed other people not me. I was so very wrong! Learn from my mistake - avoid Paypal and do NOT rely on Ebay as your only method of doing business.
"Want To Know Why I Hate Ebay And
PayPal?
Read My Letter Below..."
NOTE: Below is the actual letter I wrote and sent, via Certified US Mail, to Ebay and Paypal in effort to reverse the suspensions
placed on my Ebay and Paypal accounts. At the very least I was hoping they could provide a reason
as to why my accounts were murdered.
But hey, guess what?
Per the Ebay/Paypal Terms Of Service they do not have to provide a reason. Oh...and in addition to that kick in the crotch... they don't have to return any monies you may have in your account for up to 180 days.
UPDATE: As of , no resolution and no response, other than canned, to my letter below. Did I mention yet that...Ebay and Paypal suck!
I honestly did not now what a scam PayPal was until I got smacked and began doing my research. And to know that Ebay ignores or often condones their practices is even more disheartning.
Myself, I can live without Ebay but the ugly fact remains that Paypal (for now) is the dominate force for exchanging funds online and especially with Ebay (Ebay owns Paypal). Call me a hypocrite but even my BooCooBay Shop (and soon BooCooBay Auction House) requires members to have a PayPal account.
This said, I recommend you use PayPal only when necessary and to follow the advice on this page and the recommended pages I list below. And definitely read the letters from PayPalEmployee #1 and PayPal Employee #2
Tips when using Ebay/Paypal
Remember, despite their soft and soothing words, Ebay/Paypal will assume you are guilty if/when an issue arises. You must prove
you are not guilty of the offense even if you do not know what the offense is. (Often they won't even tell you! Ain't that a hoot?)
Leave the absolute minimum in your Paypal account at all times. If/when trouble occurs Paypal will freeze your account
for up to 180 days (that's 6 frickin months!).
Do NOT rely or fall in love with any income you may earn as a result of Ebay/Paypal. Thousands, including myself, had their business wiped out in a day due to account suspensions and Ebay policy changes.
Words to live by when dealing with Ebay/Paypal - "Pay and use them as little as possible. Use protection. Don't trust them. Don't fall in love with them. In short, treat Ebay/Paypal like the cheap whore they are!"
Dear Ms. Whitman, Mr. Dutta, Ms. Norrington, Mr. Jacobson,
I have my doubts as to whether this letter will reach your eyes but due to the barriers in place by Ebay to prevent human contact and the helplessness I feel at this moment I have no other choice but to contact the top level of Ebay in this matter.
In respect for your time I will be brief.
Last week eBay suspended our account for a policy violation – a violation that will not be revealed to us by the Ebay staff. (At the end of this letter is the email we received from Ebay.) I, as have Ranjit (Robert), have offered to speak to anyone at Ebay at anytime in regards to our account to ensure Ebay that we are doing nothing even remotely malicious or devious. We want to sell good, high quality, rugs at a fair price on Ebay. That’s it. Our business is very simple.
After receiving the same canned email response from Ebay (copied below) I spent 50 minutes on Google Friday trying to track down a phone number where I could talk to a human and explain our business to, again, ensure that we were doing nothing malicious or devious. I succeeded in finding a phone number but Henry at Ebay repeated the same words, almost verbatim, as the email at the bottom of this letter states.
As I write this letter to you I cannot properly convey the anger and frustration I feel towards eBay at this moment. This incident comes just a month after a drastic Ebay policy change that disallowed the sale of digital goods on eBay. This policy change wiped out my Ebay store (and 1000’s of others) that I worked on daily for 15 months. My PowerSeller status, my 99.2% positive feedback rating, and my Ebay Store all wiped out within a week when Brian Burke announced the change on 3/24/08 and implemented it on 4/1/08.
As a defender of eBay for many years I suddenly knew what an absolute fool I was to have my business under the control of a company that had no financial interest in my success or failure. Although I was extremely bitter towards eBay I knew this was my fault not yours.
That said, Robert and I have been friends for years but due to his location in Brunswick, NJ we have been forced to stay in communication via email and phone calls. In one of our recent discussions, I mentioned to him (angrily) about the demise of my Ebay business and he commented that we should sell his rugs on Ebay. After some consideration I agreed and we began listing many of his various rugs.
Because rugs are not my area of expertise we decided to change the contact information of the account over to a mutual email account so that together we could handle any product or auction questions directly and efficiently. And because the initial eBay fees for listing all the rugs were much greater than I was able to deal with we decided to have the fees come from his account.
As mentioned, we only wanted and want to sell rugs. We have no malicious or devious intents whatsoever. There is no doubt that in hindsight we could have done things differently to ensure a smoother product line change from digital e-books to fine rugs. In our excitement to sell rugs honestly and legitimately on Ebay we didn’t even consider the idea that we were somehow violating Ebay policy.
As it stands now, and without your help, we are suspended forever from Ebay. I, myself, cannot open another Ebay account to buy nor sell and currently my PayPal account is froze.
As a loyal and, until recently, huge fan of Ebay I am asking for your intervention in this matter. Before tossing us into the abyss, I am asking for someone at Ebay who has the authority to make a decision to take 5-10 minutes to talk to Robert and myself so that we can explain our dealings. We want to be in business on Ebay and become the top sellers of fine rugs. If our intent was not 100% honest and ethical I would not have taking the time to write you this letter on a Sunday morning.
I know that listening to the concerns of one or two disenchanted members is not high on your priority list. It is my hope though that, in the spirit of decency and fair play, you will consider our request to have our suspension lifted or at least reviewed by an Ebay person in a position able to render the decision. As mentioned, Robert and I are available anytime to discuss this issue. I have listed our phone numbers and email addresses below for your convenience.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. Do not hesitate to contact us for any further information needed or questions you need answered.
